Is Sirius XM a Buy, Sell or Hold?
Thank you for your continued posts about SIRI. They are teaching me a lot. When someone becomes so wrapped up emotionally in their stock position they will grasp at anything rather than admit they made a wrong decision and move on.

I did this a couple times in the past and your posts are a reminder never to get so emotionally committed to a stock that I don't use the discipline to preserve my capital.

As for SIRI, it is obvious that the toxic debt has killed the common. It has happened many times before to companies that choose to load up on toxic debt and then have their business plans underperform. The toxic debt holders simply short the common into bankruptcy or a fire sale. Either way, the debt holders make out like bandits. In bankruptcy, the common will be wiped out and the debt holders will be the new common holders, if there is still a possible business here. SIRI will emerge from bankruptcy with a much small debt position (of the non-toxic kind) and the old debt holders will hold plenty of fresh new shares issued for forgiving the debt. Since debt holders made out with their short positions, they end up with making money coming and going.

Meanwhile, longs like you will be posting... why didn't I see this coming?

Open Letter to Sirius XM Radio
Most of these recommendations have nothing to do with the Satellite Radio business. Make a competing iTunes? Come on. You would run this company into the ground if you implemented some of these suggestions.

If I were running this company, I would restructure the balance sheet by entering bankruptcy, abandon subscription pricing, move to have ALL radios have XM band, and generate revenue through advertising on the stations.

Basically, I would be trying to get XM added to every radio manufactured and sold in the US. Forget about doing deals with the auto companies, go directly to the radio manufacturers so they add XM to every AM/FM radio made.

As long as they hold to the subscription model, this concept will not reach enough people to make a go at it.

Sirius XM Merger Appeal Looks Groundless
Why are you still long SIRI? You could still get something for your shares. Why wait to sell? It only goes lower with the passing of time.

July Satellite Radio Retail Sales Down but Better Than Expected
Tough to be a SIRI long... The shorts are all over this one due to the huge converts outstanding. I've seen this many times as the bond holders get a free ride to the down side. It is a vicious cycle since as soon as they are in the black, these shorts start shorting with impunity hoping to push the company into bankruptcy. As the stock goes lower and lower, it makes it next to impossible to refinance the debt.

Anyway, good luck with your long position. But, I don't think SIRI will trade on fundamentals until and if it can refinance those converts to more attractive financing. Chances are SIRI will go bankrupt wiping out the common and then re-emerge as a new company with new shareholders to take advantage of the long term fundamentals in the business.

Apple's Balancing Act: 3G iPhone vs. Jobs' Health - Barron's
The price of the iPhone has increased! Reporters are focusing on the $199 up front number and forgetting that AT&T has raised the monthly subscription $10 to compensate. Over the required 24 months, this will cost you $40 more than those who bought the first iPhone generation.

Here's What Will Happen To Apple's Rivals
New iPhone is not "half-as-expensiv... in the US, since AT&T simply increased the monthly subscription (which is required) by $10, more than offsetting the up front outlay.

Also, "twice-as-fast&qu... is Apple marketing hype that only applies to use of the iPhone for browsing/downloading in areas that have 3G service available. In the US, much of the country will only have EDGE for a long time. The processor in the new iPhone is exactly the same as the original so for many, the iPhone will not see any speed improvements.
